Our History

WW “Bill” Imfeld (1913-1985) started in the trade by taking correspondence courses on refrigeration in 1936. By the late 1930’s he was working as a technician at a local shop and wanted to make .50 per hour. The owner offered him less than that and thus he started his own company with the afore mentioned Paul Cloutier in 1940.

Initially starting out with dairy and market refrigeration, Bill plied his trade along with market cases, commercial air conditioning and the newer technology of home air conditioning. Along the way, Bill brought his wife Margaret to work in the office until her death in 1957. Bill continued to make his mark in the industry when he semi-retired in 1964 upon the arrival of his son Dick. Bill continued to come in to provide guidance a couple of hours each day until his death in 1985.

As the grandson, I express my admiration and respect for a man who was willing to take a risk with no outside help. I trust he is happy his son and grandson have kept the “shop” operating and evolving to what it is today.

Dick came into the business after graduating Cal Poly Pomona in 1961 and assumed the sales manager role as Bill simi retired in 1964.

He oversaw the stabilizing of the business and changing the company emphasis from market refrigeration to light commercial/residential/design build.

Shirley came into the business in 1985 and oversaw the internal operations. During their leadership, the industry experienced many business cycles and they positioned the company to be in the best position to exploit it.

While Dick relinquished the Presidency, he is still a valuable member as he provides sale and design experience to the company.

As the grandson, I express my admiration and respect for a man who was willing to take a risk with no outside help. I trust he is happy his son and grandson have kept the “shop” operating and evolving to what it is today.
